In-Depth Review
A Legacy of Love and Inclusivity
Tove Jansson, the creator of the Moomins, remains one of the most significant queer artists in Nordic history. Finn Family Moomintroll is often the gateway for suburban families into this whimsical, philosophical world. The Moomin brand, managed by Moomin Characters Oy Ltd in Finland, remains a family-run business that fiercely protects Jansson’s values of tolerance, environmental stewardship, and the beauty of unconventional families.
Environmental Ethics in Print
The Moomin brand has recently undergone a massive push toward B Corp standards (via their publishing partners) and FSC certification for all physical media. This edition is printed on sustainable paper that mimics the tactile, organic feel of the original 1940s releases. For a suburban family of four, these stories provide a peaceful alternative to high-octane modern media, emphasizing the rhythm of the seasons and the importance of caring for the Baltic Sea.
- Authored by a pioneering queer woman.
- Focuses on pacifism and community.
- Promotes environmental preservation.
