Why category-first ranking
A single ethics score across the entire catalog would be misleading — a shampoo and a couch aren't comparable. Category-first ranking lets us weight the pillars appropriately: packaging matters more for consumables, material sourcing more for apparel, and animal-derivation more for cosmetics.
Within a category, our top ten is not a static list. It re-ranks whenever a brand loses a certification, is named in a credible controversy, or is acquired by a parent with a materially different ethics profile.
