In-Depth Review
A New Philosophy for Computing
Framework is a mission-driven company aimed at fixing the consumer electronics industry. The Framework Laptop 13 is a high-performance thin-and-light notebook that is fully customizable. From the moment you buy it, you choose the ports you want via their innovative Expansion Card system, which allows you to hot-swap USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, MicroSD, and even extra storage modules.
Radical Transparency and Repairability
Every internal component—from the battery and screen to the motherboard—has a QR code printed on it. Scanning this code takes the user directly to a repair guide and a marketplace where they can buy the exact replacement part. This ensures that a single component failure (like a broken keyboard or cracked screen) doesn't result in the entire machine becoming e-waste.
Environmental Impact and Materials
The Framework Laptop 13 uses 50% post-consumer recycled aluminum for its chassis and 30% post-consumer recycled plastic for its bezel. By enabling users to upgrade their mainboard to newer generations without replacing the entire chassis, Framework significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing new laptops every few years.
| Chassis | 50% Recycled Aluminum |
| Repairability | iFixit 10/10 Score |
| Upgradability | Replaceable Mainboard & RAM |
| Ports | User-swappable Expansion Cards |
"Modern laptops are usually black boxes that are impossible to fix. Framework changes that by putting the power back into the hands of the owner."
The DIY Edition allows users to bring their own operating system and memory, reducing costs and preventing the purchase of unnecessary components.
