In-Depth Review
Publishing for a Better World
Haymarket Books is a radical, independent non-profit publisher based in Chicago. Unlike the 'Big Five' publishers, Haymarket focuses specifically on titles that challenge the status quo. Their catalog covers a wide range of topics from climate justice to intersectional feminism, providing a platform for voices that are often marginalized in mainstream media.
Non-Profit Integrity
As a 501(c)(3) project, Haymarket's primary goal isn't shareholder profit—it's the dissemination of ideas. Their bundles are particularly popular, offering curated collections of literature at a reduced price to make critical education more accessible. They often host free events and provide free e-books during moments of social urgency.
- Printed on recycled or FSC-certified paper whenever possible.
- Partnerships with community organizations and libraries.
- Focus on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors.
- Support for incarcerated readers through book donation programs.
