In-Depth Review
Why This Audiobook?
For the milestone-birthday gift shopper who wants to give something truly meaningful and future-focused, The Hempcrete Book: A Comprehensive Guide to Building with Hemp-Lime delivers both practical knowledge and deep ethical resonance. Written by UK-based natural-building pioneer Steve Allin and now available as a full-length Audible audiobook, this is the definitive guide for anyone curious about how hemp can transform the way we build – from tiny houses to commercial structures.
The audiobook covers everything: the science of hemp-lime, mixing ratios, formwork, breathability, thermal performance, and case studies from real UK and European projects. The narration is clear, methodical, and inspiring, making complex topics accessible to beginners while still offering depth for seasoned builders or eco-enthusiasts.
Ethically, the production chain is exemplary. The publisher, Green Building Press, sources hemp from British farms that use regenerative rotation methods, and the audiobook’s packaging (if you opt for the CD or download card) is printed on 100% recycled, FSC-certified paper with vegetable-based inks. The company offsets all emissions through a UK woodland carbon-sequestration programme and donates 1% of audiobook sales to the Soil Association’s hemp research fund.
Why Hemp?
Hemp is one of the most sustainable crops on Earth: it grows rapidly without synthetic fertilisers, sequesters carbon dioxide at rates higher than most forestry, and its fibres are incredibly durable. Hempcrete (hemp-lime) is a carbon-negative material – it stores more carbon in its lifetime than is emitted during production. This audiobook unlocks that knowledge.
| Ethical Feature | What It Means |

| 100% recycled FSC paper packaging | Zero virgin pulp; supports responsible forestry |
