In-Depth Review
Global Wisdom for a Better Life
Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute, explores what makes people happy around the world. While Penguin Random House is a global giant, their 'Penguin Life' imprint and recent sustainability pledges have moved the needle toward more ethical mass-market publishing. This book is printed using FSC-certified materials, ensuring that the paper is sourced from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits.
The book focuses on six factors that explain happiness: togetherness, money, health, freedom, trust, and kindness. By promoting these social goods, the content itself acts as a driver for social ethics and community building.
"Happiness is not a destination; it's a way of traveling."
- Case studies from across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
- Practical tips for community involvement.
- Focus on social equity and work-life balance.
| Metric | Details |
|---|---|
| Carbon Footprint | Part of Penguin's Net Zero path |
| Social Impact | Research funded by the Happiness Research Institute |
| Distribution | Wide availability reduces shipping distances via local hubs |
While mass publishing has inherent challenges with overproduction, Penguin Life has implemented a 'print to order' and small-batch replenishment system for this title to minimize physical waste and the destruction of unsold 'remainders' which is a common dark secret in the publishing industry.
