Conventional shopping search sorts by price, popularity and paid placement. None of those tell you whether an item was tested on animals, packed in virgin plastic, or made by a subsidiary of a company you are deliberately avoiding.

Browse is the core of EthiCompare: a filterable catalogue where every product carries a 0–100 ethics score built from the same published criteria, so two items in the same category can be compared on equal terms.

Filters that reflect real decisions

Filters map to the questions people actually bring to a purchase rather than to marketing categories.

  • Certification: vegan, cruelty-free, B Corp, Fairtrade, GOTS, organic and more.
  • Free-from: palm oil, plastic packaging, microplastics, animal derivatives.
  • Price tier, so ethical options can be found within a real budget.
  • Brand and parent company, for anyone tracking ownership rather than logos.
  • Ethics score threshold, to hide everything below your personal bar.

What the score is built from

Each score combines verified certifications, ingredient and material analysis, packaging, brand transparency and any documented controversies attached to the brand or its parent company. The weighting is published in full and applied identically to every product.

Scores are evidence-weighted: a claim with an independent audit behind it moves the number, an unverified marketing statement does not.

Comparing before you commit

Add several products to the compare tray and see them side by side on certifications, materials, packaging and score. Save anything you are still considering to your wishlist, and use the values profile so recommendations weight the criteria you personally care about most.

Frequently asked questions

How are products chosen for the catalogue?+

Products are added continuously across categories, prioritising items with verifiable certification data and broad availability, and excluding near-duplicates of items already listed.

Are rankings paid for?+

No. Placement cannot be bought. Affiliate links may fund the site, but they never affect a score or a position.

How often is the catalogue updated?+

Daily. New products, refreshed brand profiles and updated controversy records are published on an automated schedule.
