A 3-minute product check

  1. Run the marketing copy through the greenwashing checker — if every claim is vague, stop there.
  2. Decode the ingredient list for animal-derived and flagged inputs.
  3. Look up any certification mark to see what it actually audits.
  4. Check the product's full ethics score for packaging, labour and brand-level issues the label can't show.

What these tools can't tell you

An ingredient list is silent on who harvested the raw material, what the factory pays, and whether the parent company is fighting a greenwashing case. A certification mark only covers the criteria in its own standard — often a narrow slice.

That's the gap our 5-pillar score fills. Use the tools to screen fast, then read the product or brand page before you buy.

Tools FAQ

Are these tools free, and do they need an account?+

All four are free with no signup, no usage cap and no email wall. They read the same certification, INCI and materials datasets that feed the 0–100 score on every product page, so a tool result and a product page will never contradict each other.

Is anything I paste stored?+

No. Ingredient lists and marketing copy are processed to produce the result you see and are not written to your account, attached to an advertising profile, or sold. There is no login requirement, so there is no account for them to attach to in the first place.

Read our transparency policy
How accurate is the ingredient decoder?+

It matches your text against indexed INCI names, their aliases and a list of known animal-derived inputs, so it catches a substance written as "cera alba" as reliably as "beeswax". Genuinely ambiguous inputs — glycerin, stearic acid, squalene, mono- and diglycerides — can be plant or animal derived and are flagged "depends on source" rather than guessed at; only the manufacturer can resolve those.

Can I use the results to decide what to buy?+

Use them as a filter, not a verdict. An ingredient list is silent on who harvested the raw material, what the factory pays, how the pack is disposed of, and whether the parent company is defending a greenwashing case. Those four gaps are exactly what the five scoring pillars cover on a product or brand page.

What these tools can't tell you
Do the tools cover food and household products too?+

Yes. The decoder and label lookup index food, cleaning and personal-care marks — Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, Leaping Bunny, OEKO-TEX, FSC and more — and the swap calculator is built around household consumables such as bottles, wraps, razors and laundry.

What should I do if a tool flags something?+

Treat one flag as a prompt, not a rejection. Run the three remaining steps of the product check — copy, ingredients, certification, full score — and compare against a ranked alternative before deciding. A single vague eco claim on an otherwise well-certified product means much less than a pattern of them.
