Cactus Leather
Nopal cactus pulp blended with bio-polyurethane into a leather substitute.
What it is
Mature nopal cactus leaves are harvested without killing the plant, dried in the sun, milled, and combined with a partly bio-based polyurethane on a fabric backing. Desserto is the dominant supplier.
Why it matters
Nopal is rain-fed on arid land that supports little else, and the plant regrows for years from the same root system. Typical formulations are around 30–65% bio-content, with the balance being polyurethane.

No. It is a hybrid — cactus pulp plus polyurethane binder. It reduces plastic content rather than eliminating it.
Does harvesting hurt the cactus?+
Only mature pads are cut, every 6–8 months, and the plant regrows. Plantations run for roughly eight years on the same roots.
